Red Line Sax Quartet
L to R: Brandon Kies, Doug O’Connor, Gai Qun, Quinn Lewis
The Red Line Sax Quartet is comprised of students from the Eastman School of Music. Since the group began playing together in the Spring of 2008, Red Line has won 1st prize in the 2009 Fischoff and MTNA National Chamber Music Competitions, and has made their orchestral debut alongside heralded saxophonist Branford Marsalis and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. RLSQ was recently given Eastman’s 2009 John Celantano Award for Excellence in Chamber Music. Today, the Red Line Sax Quartet is one of the world’s only chamber music groups to perform full programs from memory, making their live performances uniquely engaging and communicative. Internationally, RLSQ has received critical acclaim for performances in venues across Thailand and China. Their 2009-2010 season will showcase the quartet’s versatility in concerts ranging from classical to jazz programming, including a daring concert of five world premieres for sax quartet and electronics in New York City.
Members of the quartet are:
Brandon Kies (alto saxophone)
Doug O’Connor (soprano saxophone)
Gai Qun (tenor saxophone)
Quinn Lewis (baritone saxophone)
