The Monty Alexander Trio
Monty Alexander's appearance last year to a sold-out crowd at Easton's Avalon Theatre drew rave reviews from audience and press alike. T. F. Sayles of Chesapeake Bay Magazine stumbled on the Labor Day weekend concert at the end of a bike and boating tour of Easton, and rhapsodized over "the perfect coda for my Easton adventure" after "two mesmerizing hours under the spell of jazz great Monty Alexander." His reaction echoed a glowing editorial in the Star-Democrat.
This year Monty Alexander returns as the Artistic Director of Chesapeake Chamber Music’s first Jazz Festival, which the organization chose to name in his honor. It was in that role that Monty selected Grace Kelly’s quintet to kick off the Festival on Friday September 3. He will participate with Grace in a "jazz conversation" on Saturday afternoon, and close the inaugural Festival with a reprise of last year’s celebrated appearance of The Monty Alexander Trio. The event begins at 8:00 p.m. at the Avalon Theatre.
