Fall Interlude Concert

The Lions Gate Trio

The world-renowned Lions Gate Trio delighted a sell-out audience at Chesapeake Chamber Music's Fall Interlude Concert held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Easton's Academy Art Museum.  This was the first Eastern Shore appearance by the Trio, composed of Katie Lansdale (violin), Florence Millet (piano), and its recently-announced new member, Marcy Rosen (cello).  Rosen is well known to chamber music fans on the Eastern Shore, not only because of her musical virtuosity, but because of her role in the founding of Chesapeake Chamber Music, and her nearly 25 years of service as CCM's Artistic Co-Director.

For the October 24 concert the Trio performed Shostakovich's youthful Trio no. 1 in C minor, Op. 8, Ravel's highly demanding Sonata for Violin and Cello, and Brahms' well-known Trio in B major, Op. 8.  The audience responded warmly with a long standing ovation. A wine and cheese reception followed the concert and provided an opportunity for audience members to greet and thank the performers individually.

The Lions Gate Trio was originally founded at the Tanglewood Festival in 1988.  They have brought to audiences the standard repertory for piano trio, as well as complex works from the modern repertory and lesser-known masterworks of quality. The Trio's members pursue separate careers as soloists and teachers, have performed at concert halls and festivals through Europe and the United States, and are known to tens of thousands through their radio and television performances and recordings.
